Kakinada: Police job seekers hold Mega Rally, laid siege of Collectorate
Kakinada, Sept 7 (TNT): Police job aspirants on Monday took out a mega rally through the main streets of Kakinada city, protesting the delay in issuing a notification for police recruitment to fill vacancies in the department.
A large number of youth preparing for the much-awaited recruitment drive, including those undergoing training at private coaching centres, participated in the rally carrying posters and placards and raising slogans demanding that the government issue the recruitment notification without further delay.
The protesters gathered at Saradamba Temple Circle, near the high-mast national flag, and raised slogans against Minister Nara Lokesh, questioning the delay in the promised police recruitment and demanding clarity on the proposed jobs.
Traffic at the busy four-road junction was disrupted for some time as the large gathering of protesters made it difficult for traffic police to regulate vehicular movement.
The job aspirants said they had been preparing for police recruitment for several years and spending considerable amounts on coaching at private institutions, placing a financial burden on their families, particularly those from rural areas.
They urged the government to take their plight into consideration and immediately issue the police recruitment notification and commence the recruitment process without the delays that had characterised previous recruitment exercises.
The aspirants also demanded that the government take a favourable decision on the upper age limit to ensure that candidates who had crossed the existing age threshold due to the delay were not deprived of an opportunity to compete.
The protesters later proceeded to the Kakinada Collectorate and laid siege to the premises as part of their agitation.
Meanwhile, the CPM Kakinada rural committee extended solidarity to the protesting police job aspirants. CPM leaders Tirumalasetti Nageswara Rao, Peddimsetti Ramakrishna, Chinthapalli Ajay Kumar, Thottipudi Raja and Ch Vijaykumar addressed the protesters and supported their demands.
The CPM leaders demanded that police recruitment be conducted not merely for 1,600 posts but for 10,000 posts, besides seeking an increase in the upper age limit.
“Chief Minister and Ministers secured political employment and are worried about their children’s political future but forgot the hunger of unemployed youth,” the CPM leaders said.
Later, a delegation of the police job aspirants met the District Revenue Officer (DRO) and submitted a memorandum pressing for immediate recruitment, enhancement of the upper age limit and commencement of the selection process.
