TTD to adopt technology-based luggage tracking system at Tirumala

Tirumala, Sept 1 (TNT): The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) is set to introduce a technology-based luggage management and tracking system to provide devotees with faster, safer and more convenient baggage services at Tirumala.

TTD Additional Executive Officer Ch Venkaiah Chowdary on Tuesday reviewed the proposed system at a meeting held at the Sudharma Conference Hall with TTD Vigilance officials and representatives of GMR.

GMR officials presented the proposed system, which uses BLE 5.1 technology to track luggage end-to-end from the time it is handed over by devotees at Alipiri until it is collected at Tirumala.

Under the system, luggage will be tagged at Alipiri, transported to Tirumala and stored at the GNC, with its movement monitored throughout the process. The system is designed to handle around 12,000 bags per day and up to 1,800 bags an hour during peak periods.

Each bag will be fitted with a BLE tag for real-time location tracking. Devotees will be able to request their luggage in advance through kiosks or a mobile application when they are within about 100 metres of the GNC, helping reduce queues at collection counters.

The proposed system will also have digital manifests and GPS-based monitoring of luggage movement from Alipiri to GNC. Occupancy, pilgrim movement, crowd levels and service status will be monitored through an integrated command-and-control system.

The Additional EO directed officials to focus on faster and more convenient services while ensuring the security of devotees’ luggage. He stressed the need for adequate infrastructure, technology and coordination among staff for effective implementation based on pilgrim footfall.
