Singareni invited to explore critical minerals opportunities in Australia
Hyderabad, Aug 31 (TNT): Monash University, one of Australia’s leading research institutions, has invited the Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) to explore collaboration and business opportunities in Australia’s critical minerals sector.
A delegation from Monash University met SCCL Chairman and Managing Director Dr Buddaprakash Jyoti at Singareni Bhavan here on Monday and briefed him on opportunities in Australia’s critical minerals sector, the state-owned mining company said in a release.
The delegation said Australia, which has abundant critical mineral resources, was keen to promote partnerships with international organisations in the sector and invited Singareni, with its extensive mining experience, to explore mutually beneficial opportunities.
It said growing global demand for critical minerals had opened up significant opportunities in exploration, extraction, processing, refining and the manufacture of value-added products.
Monash University was willing to provide technical expertise in advanced technologies, sustainable mining practices and commercially viable strategic initiatives, it added.
The delegation highlighted the university’s expertise in research, education, industry collaboration and converting research outcomes into commercially viable technological solutions.
The discussions focused on creating greater value through downstream processing and refining instead of limiting operations to the extraction of raw minerals.
The delegation suggested that Singareni could leverage Monash University’s expertise in sustainable mining, environmentally friendly practices, mine closure planning, advanced technologies and skilled human resource development.
Singareni officials made a presentation on the company’s initiatives to enter the critical minerals sector. They informed the delegation that the company had recently commenced exploration for gold and copper deposits in Karnataka.
Dr Jyoti said Singareni was exploring opportunities across the world to establish mutually beneficial partnerships in the critical minerals sector.
“Possibilities for cooperation with Monash University would be explored in research, advanced technology, critical minerals and skill development,” he said.
A high-level team of Singareni officials would soon visit Australia to explore opportunities in the critical minerals sector, the CMD added.
Director (Personnel and Finance) Gowtham Potru and General Manager (Coordination and Marketing) T Srinivas attended the meeting at Singareni Bhavan. Director (Operations) L V Suryanarayana, Director (PP) K Venkateshwarlu, General Manager (BD) Ramdas and General Manager (Exploration) Pankaj Kulshreshtha participated from the Kothagudem Corporate Office.
Professor Yiannis Ventikos, Dean of Engineering (Monash University) and other members of the delegation were also present.
