Telangana Govt Constitutes Panel for modernization of Polytechnic Education in state
Hyderabad, Aug 24 (TNT): The Telangana government has constituted a six-member high-level committee to examine issues concerning the modernisation of Polytechnic education and protection of the academic and career interests of students and other stakeholders.
The committee, constituted by the government, will be headed by Keshava Rao, Advisor to Government (Public Affairs), according to an order issued by Chief Secretary Sanjay Jaju here on Monday.
The panel includes Prof M. Kodandaram, Member, Telangana Legislative Council; Prof Shantha Sinha, Professor (Retd.); Navin Mittal, Special Chief Secretary, Energy Department; Secretary to Government, SHAKTI Department; and the Commissioner of Technical Education, who will be the Member-Convenor.
The government had earlier issued an order on June 16 as part of efforts to bring greater convergence between the Polytechnic system and the state’s emerging skill-development and industry ecosystem.
The objective is to strengthen Polytechnic education, modernise curricula and infrastructure, increase industry participation, improve internship and apprenticeship opportunities and enhance employability and higher-education pathways for Polytechnic students.
The government said concerns had subsequently been raised by students, faculty, employees and other stakeholders regarding the proposed institutional arrangements and their implications for the existing diploma framework, academic progression, ECET/lateral-entry opportunities, fee structure, service conditions of employees, institutional identity and the role of existing technical-education bodies.
The high-level committee will hold consultations with all concerned stakeholders, examine the issues in detail and submit specific recommendations to the government within 30 days.
The government will take further necessary action after receiving the committee’s recommendations, the Order added.
