Centre Denies Permission for Telangana CM Revanth’s US Visit; Telangana Delegation to Continue MoU Talks

London, Aug 21 (TNT): Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s scheduled visit to the United States has been cancelled after the Ministry of External Affairs denied permission for the tour, with the state government stating that “clearance from political angle is denied.”

The Telangana government had sought approval from the Centre for the Chief Minister’s official UK and US visit as per protocol.

While the UK leg was cleared, permission for the US visit was denied after the TelanganaRising delegation reached London, an official release from CMs office said here on Friday.

Revanth Reddy will now return to Hyderabad from London on August 23 instead of travelling to Boston and New York, where he was scheduled to hold meetings with representatives of leading global educational institutions.

The Chief Minister has directed officials accompanying the delegation to proceed with the planned US engagements and work towards finalising MoUs and partnership agreements with institutions including Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Northeastern University and Virginia Tech.

Reacting to the Centre’s decision, Revanth Reddy said the purpose of the visit was to bring world-class educational institutions to Telangana and create opportunities for students.

“The only purpose of the visit was to bring the world’s best institutions to India, Telangana and Hyderabad as part of the National Education Policy. These institutions would have fulfilled the aspirations of our youth for education, skills and training from the best Ivy League and global institutions,” he said.

The Chief Minister said issues related to youth, development and nation-building should remain above political considerations.

“I have always believed that we should think beyond politics and elections when it comes to nation building and the future of the youth,” he said.

Revanth Reddy reiterated Telangana’s vision of transforming Hyderabad into a global knowledge hub by attracting international universities, research institutions and skill development centres.

He said Hyderabad’s existing ecosystem, with institutions such as Osmania University, University of Hyderabad, JNTU, IIT, ISB, IIIT and NALSAR, has helped the city emerge as a preferred destination for global companies and GCCs.

“Now, we will make Hyderabad the home for the world’s greatest education and skills institutions,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister will continue his scheduled engagements in London, including meetings with academics and leadership from Oxford University, Cambridge University, London School of Economics, London Business School and the University of London.

He will also hold discussions with sports institutions and skilling organisations in the UK to explore possible collaborations with Telangana.

“My endeavour is to make Hyderabad one of the top global cities, where any common Indian can access education and certificates from institutions like Harvard, Oxford, MIT, LBS and LSE,” Revanth Reddy added.
