Singareni Contributes to National Energy Security Through Coal as well as Renewable Power:CMD
Hyderabad, Aug 19 (TNT): Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) will continue to contribute to the country’s energy security by ensuring adequate coal supplies while expanding its renewable energy initiatives, SCCL Chairman and Managing Director Dr Buddhaprakash Jyoti said on Wednesday.
Speaking at a panel discussion on “Energy Security and Power Generation in India” at the Indian Energy Summit & Expo in Hyderabad, Jyoti said SCCL had been contributing to the country’s energy requirements through coal supplies for several decades.
As per the directions of the State government, SCCL, Telangana State Power Generation Corporation Limited (GENCO) and Transmission Corporation of Telangana Limited (TRANSCO) were working together to meet the state’s power requirements, he said.
Jyoti said SCCL had diversified into thermal power, solar power and critical minerals as part of its business expansion initiatives.
However, coal-based power generation was likely to remain in demand in the country for another four decades, he said.
Against this backdrop, SCCL was planning to increase coal production in the coming years to meet the country’s growing energy requirements, while continuing to expand its renewable energy activities to support a balanced and sustainable energy future, he said.
The panel discussion was moderated by Professor Pawan Kumar Paranandi.
