CBI court sentences three to four years in bank fraud case
New Delhi, Aug 18 (TNT): A CBI court in Delhi on Tuesday sentenced three accused persons to four years’ imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 3.5 lakh each in a bank fraud case.
The convicted persons have been identified as Amit Chaturvedi, Sanjay Chaturvedi and Pravin Juneja.
The court pronounced the judgment , convicting and sentencing the three accused in the case.
The CBI had registered the case on April 8, 2009, following conversion of a preliminary enquiry.
It was alleged that the accused, in conspiracy with each other, availed a Rupee Term Loan of Rs 7 crore from UCO Bank by submitting false information and forged documents showing utilisation of the loan proceeds.
The accused allegedly siphoned off the loan funds for purposes other than those for which the loan was sanctioned, thereby causing loss to the bank.
After completion of investigation, the CBI filed a chargesheet against the accused on June 1, 2010. Following the trial, the court convicted and sentenced the three accused.
The CBI said the conviction assumes significance as it is the third conviction of Amit Chaturvedi, Sanjay Chaturvedi and Pravin Juneja in bank fraud cases investigated and prosecuted by the agency.
