CBI arrests Dy Director (Mining), DGMS, Hyderabad in bribery case
Hyderabad, Aug 18 (TNT): The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested three accused persons, including Deputy Director (Mining), Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS), Hyderabad-III Region, South Central Zone, Hyderabad, in a bribery case.
The other arrested accused are a Consultant/Middleman and a representative of a private mining establishment, the agency said in a release here on Tuesday.
The CBI registered a case on August 17 against the Deputy Director (Mining), DGMS, Hyderabad-III Region, the Consultant/Middleman, representatives of a private mining establishment and other unknown private persons over alleged demand and acceptance of bribe.
According to the CBI, the case pertains to a fatal accident that occurred on June 25 at a mining quarry in Prakasam district( Andhra Pradesh).
Representatives of the mining establishment allegedly approached the accused Deputy Director through a Consultant/Middleman seeking a favourable inquiry report in connection with the accident and to avoid implicating the owners of the establishment.
The middleman allegedly demanded Rs 1 lakh from the representatives for arranging a favourable report from the accused Deputy Director (Mining).
Subsequently, Rs 2 lakh was allegedly arranged for payment to the Deputy Director through the Consultant/Middleman on Monday.
The amount was allegedly sought for providing a favourable report in the fatal accident case and for allowing quarterly bribe payments relating to the private mining establishment and other mines.
The CBI laid a trap on Monday and caught the Deputy Director (Mining) while allegedly accepting Rs 2 lakh from the Consultant/Middleman in the presence of a representative of the private mining establishment.
The alleged bribe amount was recovered during the trap proceedings.
Searches are being conducted at the premises of the accused persons in Ongole, Kadapa and Hyderabad.
The three accused, including the Deputy Director (Mining) and the Consultant/Middleman, were produced before the competent court at Vijayawada on Tuesday.
Investigation is underway.
