Hyderabad, Aug 17 (TNT): German Doner Kebab (GDK), a global premium quick-service restaurant (QSR) brand, on Monday entered the Indian market with the opening of its first outlet at Film Nagar, Tollywood Lane, Jubilee Hills here.

GBC India, the master franchise partner of GDK in India, announced the launch and said the brand would be expanded across the country with a long-term target of more than 450 restaurants.

Founded in Berlin and headquartered in the United Kingdom, GDK has a presence in the UK, US, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Canada, Sweden and Ireland.

The brand is known for its contemporary take on doner, combining flame-grilled meat, fresh ingredients, signature sauces and toasted waffle bread.

The company said its India offering would focus on flavour, freshness, quality and protein-oriented food choices, while seeking to connect with younger consumers through music, fashion, sport, fitness and contemporary youth culture.

GBC India, which has experience in food manufacturing, product development, supply chain and franchise development, is launching the brand in India.

The company said its partnership with GDK has developed over more than a decade, with a focus on product quality and operational standards.

GDK India CEO Vikrant Tomer said the company’s objective was not merely to establish a restaurant chain but to develop the doner category in India.

“India has one of the largest and youngest QSR markets in the world. We aim to bring a globally benchmarked doner experience to Indian consumers,” he said.

GBC India Managing Director Ginny Sahni said the company’s long association with GDK had helped it understand the brand’s standards and operating culture.

Following the Hyderabad launch, the company plans to expand into Mohali and Chandigarh, besides other emerging Tier-I and Tier-II cities.

The expansion will include a mix of company-owned and franchised outlets.

As part of its India strategy, GDK has partnered with musician, actor and filmmaker Parmish Verma as its Cultural Partner.

The association is aimed at connecting the brand with younger audiences through music, entertainment, fashion, fitness and contemporary culture.

The company said Hyderabad would serve as the starting point for its India operations, with the long-term ambition of establishing more than 450 outlets across the country.
