Hyd: CSIR-IICT transfers phytopharmaceutical technology for diabetic foot ulcer treatment
Hyderabad, Aug 12 (TNT): CSIR-Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (CSIR-IICT), Hyderabad, has signed a Technology Transfer Agreement with Viridis Biopharma Private Limited for an investigational new drug (IND)-ready phytopharmaceutical developed from Gymnema sylvestre for the treatment of diabetic foot ulcers.
The technology was developed by the Department of Applied Biology at CSIR-IICT under the leadership of Dr Anthony Addlagatta as part of the CSIR Phytopharmaceutical Mission Phase-III, the Institute said in a release here on Wednesday.
The formulation has undergone botanical standardisation, pharmacological and mechanism-of-action studies, analytical and pharmacokinetic evaluation, formulation development, GMP process development, stability studies and GLP-compliant safety evaluation.
The technology has also received patent protection in India and international jurisdictions, culminating in an IND-ready data package.
The phytopharmaceutical has potential applications beyond diabetic foot ulcers, including the management of other chronic wounds and inflammatory skin disorders.
CSIR-IICT Director Dr Srinivasa Reddy said the technology transfer reflected the institute’s efforts to translate publicly funded research into innovative healthcare solutions and strengthen academia-industry collaboration.
The partnership would help advance evidence-based botanical drug development, technology commercialisation and the development of affordable therapies with global potential, he said.
The agreement marks another step towards translating indigenous plant-based research into commercially viable and clinically relevant healthcare solutions, the release added.
