Telangana Dy CM Bhatti Holds Clean Energy Talks at UC Berkeley
Hyderabad, Aug 9 (TNT): Telangana Deputy Chief Minister and Energy Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka on Sunday visited the India Energy & Climate Center (IECC) at the University of California, Berkeley, and held discussions with researchers and experts on India’s renewable energy transition, energy security and opportunities for technological collaboration.
The interaction at the university’s Goldman School of Public Policy focused on India’s target of achieving 500 GW of non-fossil fuel-based power capacity by 2030 and the policy and technological pathways required to meet the goal, an official release said here.
The discussions covered grid modernisation, energy storage, industrial decarbonisation, clean technology deployment and equitable energy transition, besides examining the economic opportunities emerging from declining costs of renewable energy technologies.
Telangana’s progress in the clean energy sector was also discussed, including the state’s Green Power Policy, expansion of solar and other renewable energy capacity and efforts to attract investments in green power projects.
The Telangana delegation highlighted initiatives involving women self-help groups in solar energy and farmer-centric renewable energy programmes under PM-KUSUM.
The state’s focus on ensuring 24×7 reliable power supply, promoting domestic manufacturing of clean energy equipment and integrating renewable energy with industrial development was highlighted during the discussions.
The IECC, housed at UC Berkeley’s Goldman School of Public Policy, brings together the university’s expertise in clean energy technology and policy with Silicon Valley’s innovation ecosystem and California’s experience in energy transition.
The interaction also explored possibilities for technical cooperation, capacity building for policymakers and joint analysis of challenges in the power, industry and transport sectors, besides climate resilience.
The participants discussed potential mechanisms to accelerate clean technology deployment while strengthening energy security and economic competitiveness, the release added.
