India Remains Competitive in Global Markets, New Export Opportunities Emerging: FIEO

Hyderabad, Aug. 7 (TNT): India continues to remain competitive in global markets despite evolving trade dynamics, with new opportunities emerging for exporters in developing economies, speakers said at the conclusion of a two-day programme on ‘Export Opportunities and How to Start an Export Business’ organised by the Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO), Telangana Chapter, here on Friday.

Addressing the programme, Amit Kumar, AGM and Branch Head, ECGC Ltd, said the Export Credit Guarantee Corporation (ECGC) plays a crucial role in promoting India’s exports by providing credit insurance against non-payment risks from overseas buyers and facilitating access to finance through credit cover for banks. He urged entrepreneurs to utilise ECGC’s customised insurance services to safeguard export transactions and explore new overseas markets.

Srinivas Tatikonda, Zonal Manager, ICICI Bank Ltd, highlighted the importance of export finance and showcased the bank’s digital services for exporters and importers, including real-time currency tracking, customised forex solutions and online payment tools aimed at improving operational efficiency.

Lead speaker and logistics expert Kamal Jain said changing global trade patterns were creating fresh opportunities for Indian exporters.

He said Free Trade Agreements (FTAs), e-commerce platforms and digital trade channels were enabling even small businesses and start-ups to enter international markets.

He stressed that exporters must focus on quality, compliance, branding, value addition, sustainability and long-term partnerships to remain globally competitive.

Representatives from the Department of Posts, ICICI Bank and VCJ Foundation also addressed the programme on postal export services, export finance, forex risk management, market identification, product-market fit, international buyer identification and export branding.

R. Kulkarni, Head, FIEO Telangana Chapter, said exports from states are key drivers of economic growth, employment generation and India’s global competitiveness.

He said FIEO provides policy advocacy, market intelligence, capacity-building and guidance on export procedures and compliances, and urged entrepreneurs to leverage the Indian Business Portal and Indian Trade Portal to expand their global business.

The programme covered various aspects of international trade, including export company formation, foreign trade policy, export finance, export incentives, product and market selection, identification of overseas buyers, Incoterms 2020, export documentation, GST provisions, Free Trade Agreements and credit risk management.
